Sharmila Mitra started Pilates in 1997 while studying dance in college. Her first teacher certification was under the instruction of Romana Kryzanowska, Pilates elder and protégé of Joseph Pilates, through the New York Authentic Pilates Guild. Sharmila worked and learned under many of Kryzanowska’s students including Bob Liekens, Niedra Gabriel, Michael Fritzke, Ton Voot, Adylia Roman and Mejo Wiggin.

To further her Pilates study, Sharmila completed a second teacher certification training program through Power Pilates. In 2004 she concurrently managed the Power Pilates Studio at the Equinox Fitness Club in Pasadena while starting her own studio – which formally became Core Arts Pilates in 2006. She’s been operating out of the Los Angeles location since 2004, and the North Orange County location since 2006. She received dual BA degrees in Dance and Communications from California State University, Fullerton, and a MA in Spiritual Psychology from the University of Santa Monica.

Sharmila’s has worked with hundreds of clients which include dancers and athletes. She’s also taught Pilates to clients that dealt with breast cancer, cystic fibrosis, multiple sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease. She’s taught a number of Hollywood celebrities including Toni Collette, Patricia Richardson, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Mary Louise Parker and Victoria Secret model Yasmeen Ghauri.
